The night session just finished in Sylt. Four competitors stepped up to the to keep in the night super session for the €4000 prize purse.
The first heat pitted Dany Bruch verse Victor Fernandez, both competing neck to neck throwing some big jumps. Victor landed a nice double racking up some serious points, but wasnt to be out done, and attempted a big double stalled forward. The continued to push the moves in the dark. Victor stopped sailing with a few minutes left after injuring his ankle, but he still had enough points to qualify for the next round.
Next heat, the light was even darker as Alex Mussolini started strong with some super nice back loops. A few minutes in Ricardo Campello began to dominate, and showed some serious stones, hucking moves like a crazy man. And even showing off for the crowd for no points with a nice wave 360. He continued to throw move after move on both tacks. The highlight was an ankle dry double forward.
Victor was unable to advance to the final due to the injury. Dany Brunch advanced as the next highest score, unfortunately he was unable to find nice ramps, and only scored a few jumps. Campello on the other hand made use all of all the ramps that came his way out and way in. He trough a nice tweaked push loop and than close tot he end, a double forward on starboard tack! Campello took the win, and the largest share of the purse. Big shout out to these four athletes that wowed the big crouds in almost no light!

The Jaguar NeilPryde Racing Series landed in Torbole, Lago di Garda last week for its first Italian stopover. Forty-three windsurfers from Italy and Hungary competed with the universal one-design RS:One, an ISAF-approved class. The 2011 PWA Freestyle World Champion, Steven van Broeckhoven, and the Hawaiian wave rider Tatiana Howard were also part of the guest list.
The RS:One Class features a new, attractive, and dynamic race format: one sail, one board. Everyone on the same equipment, allowing male and female racers of all ages to compete together.
Courses were set in front of the Torbole Circolo surf club, just meters from the crowd, providing a unique spectator experience and allowing for some exciting close-quarter competition on water.
Racing in four divisions – female, male under 22 years (Espoir), male over 22 years (Senior) and male over 40 years old (Master) – the event comprised of two days of races with thirteen qualification heats, two fiercely contested finals held in challenging conditions with fluctuating winds.
Being a one-design class, all RS:One equipment was supplied by NeilPryde, giving an equal chance to all competitors no matter sex or age. The winners of each division and overall Super Final winner shared the prize money of US$3,000.

Day six was the first day without wind at the PWA Sylt World Cup and this meant that the slalom fleet spent a frustrating day on hold, the day was called at 4:30 when suitable conditions had not materialized until than. So far today hasn`t been better, the Slalom fleet is on hold, waiting for better conditions. But that doesn`t mean nothing`s been happening. Tomorrow is the World premier of Andre Paskowski and Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North) at the 2012 Windsurfing Film Festival held at the cinema in Westerland, Sylt. The PWA grab a quick interview with Andre head over and read it now.
On the third day the slalom sailors finally took to the water, as winds ranged from 8 – 20 knots. Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) enjoyed an excellent day as the Frenchman won back-to-back bullets to enhance his title challenge. It was a completely different story for the current leader of the slalom tour though, Bjorn Dunkerbeck (Starboard / Severne / Mystic / Dunkerbeck Eyewear / Chris Benz), as he missed out on the first winners’ final and then suffered an untimely catapult in the second final of the day. Dunkerbeck will will be hoping for a miracle if he hopes to maintain his title.
Today saw the freestyle and wave sailors hit the water as the action continued in Sylt for the Third day. The morning saw relatively flat water and cross shore winds, which transformed Sylt into a freestyle arena as the double elimination began. After three hours of freestyle, the fleet has been narrowed down to the top eight men in the world. At this point the decision was made to change disciplines as the waves continued to grow in size enabling the completion of the women’s wave single elimination and the start of the men’s double elimination. The real news of today though belongs to Iballa Ruano Moreno (Starboard / Severne), who secured the 2012 PWA Wave World Championship title and also won the women’s single elimination.
The mens double elimination was called for the day due to light winds. Check back tomorrow as the action continues.
Day 2 just wrapped up at the 2012 PWA Sylt World Cup, and Philip Koster came out on top beating Victor Fernandez. The Heat was exciting with Victor Fernandez dominating early on, with great wave rides, but in the last minutes Koster came back with a nice wave 360 and one handed one footed back loop to take the lead, and win the single.
ON the losers side, Ricardo Campello dominated over Alex Mussoline. Ricardo’s aggressive style had him throw many more jumps, including his signature onehanded one footed forward, he’s currently the guy doing this. Ricardo jumping ability put him in the lead over Mussolini who showed some nice wave rides, with tackas and a nice downwind 360.
1st Philip Koster
2nd Victor Fernandez
3rd Ricardo Campello
4th Alex Mussolini
Check Back tomorrow for even more action and check out PWAWorlTour.com for a live stream and mroe detailed reports.
The final event of the season is underway, as freestyle, wave and slalom sailors compete in Sylt. The Freestyle single elimination is complete, congratulations to Gollito who took it.
1st Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo
2nd Kiri Thode
3rd Steven Van Broeckhoven
4th Tonky Frans

Day fopur saw the completion of the double elimination with Thomas Traversa (Tabou / Gaastra) took on the 2011 and 2012 PWA Wave Champion, Philip Köster (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins). Traversa took an early advantage scoring a nice wave with a super nice frontside, into backside followed by another frontside hit, as Kosters wave closed out. Traversa than scored his second wave, hitting hard with some backside smacks, than finishing it off with a smooth frontside. Kopster worked his way up wind, to score the wave of the heat, starting with a wave 360, followed by some front and backside hits, to score a 7.88. Traversa scored one more wave and edged out the current World Champion by 0.87 points.
Thomas Traversa had this to say after winning “I’m super happy, I managed to find one really good wave and then a couple of ok waves. The wind was very, very, very light, but for once I had the advantage of being light. It feels crazy and unreal at the moment.”
Top 5 of the 2012 PWA KIA Cold Hawaii World Cup:
1st Thomas Traversa (Tabou / Gaastra)
2nd Philip Köster (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins)
3rd Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / North)
4th Ricardo Campello (JP / NeilPryde / MFC)
5th Kauli Seadi (JP / NeilPryde)
A quick update on the AWT. The Hatteras wave Jam wrapped up on September 15th. The final heat came down to an epic battle between Camille Juban, Fabrice Beaux and Morgan Noireaux. It was a super close contest with Juban’s Goiter (photo above) giving him the edge over the smooth sailing Beaux and slashy Noireaux. Over on the women’s side Miho Tanaka took the crown by narrowly defeating Fiona Wylde, Ingrid Larouche and Sam Bittner. After all the action everyone headed over to the Koru Beach Klub for amazing final send-off party. Beer flowed and North Carolina BBQ was enjoyed.
Read the full report and see the gallery on the AWT website.
The next and final AWT to event to take place is the Maui Makani Classic, October 25 to November 3rd.
WEYMOUTH, England – If this truly was the end of windsurfing in the Olympics, it was definitely memorable.
Dorian Van Rijsselberge of the Netherlands exuberantly validated the men’s gold medal he had clinched days earlier, and Marina Alabau of Spain skimmed across the waves to win the women’s regatta Tuesday.
Windsurfing was removed from the lineup for the 2016 Rio Olympics in a vote in May, replaced by kiteboarding. The International RS:X Class Association filed a legal challenge last week against the International Sailing Federation. So to do your bit head over to change.org and sign the petition, it takes two minutes and could secure the Olympic dreams for many across the world.
Alabau got a regal send-off from her fellow Spanish sailors after coming ashore. As she stood on her board, they hoisted it on their shoulders and paraded her through the boat park. She held a bottle of Spanish sparkling wine in her left hand and waved the Spanish flag with her right. “It was the best of the week, for sure,” she said.
“Yeah, I think this was a mistake,” she said about windsurfing getting blown out of the games. “I think it will come back. This is my hope and this is what I think will be the right thing. I know how to kite and I will kite if they don’t give me another chance, but I love windsurfing.”
Van Rijsselberge agreed. “Of course it’s a sad thing,” he said. “Look at all the people here. Everyone is enjoying themselves. They come off the water with smiles on their faces.”
His gold medal already guaranteed, all Van Rijsselberge had to do was stay on his board and finish the final race.
He did much more than that, winning the medals race to clinch his gold in style.
After winning the race, the 6-foot-3 Van Rijsselberge climbed on top of the console on his coach’s boat and, hanging onto the pole that supports the weather vane, flashed the “hang loose” sign with his right hand. A large Dutch flag flew from the boat.
The Dutchman, who shaved his head just before the games began, said he wanted to do well in the final race.
“It was already in the pocket, but finishing it up like this and seeing everyone on the Nothe Course and them outroaring the British a little bit was a good thing for me, so why not?” he said. “I want to have a good feeling and I want to wrap it up nicely. It’s the medals race and you’ve got to race it. It’s the most important race, pretty much.”
Van Rijsselberge won six of the first nine races. His lead was so big that he sat out the 10th race.
Nick Dempsey of Britain took the silver and Poland’s Przemyslaw Miarczynski got the bronze.
With the race close to shore, Dempsey hopped off his board and greeted friends and family watching from Nothe Fort.
Alabau came into the medals race with a 14-point lead and preserved it by finishing first.
Tuuli Petaja of Finland jumped from third place overall to take the silver medal, thanks to a fourth-place finish in the medals race. Poland’s Zofia Noceti-Klepacka jumped from fifth overall to take the bronze.
The 2012 Quatro Desert Showdown has come to an end. The final came down to action packed match between Levi Siver, Camille Juban, Morgan Noireaux and Bernd Roediger. Noireaux and Roediger sailed well, but the two riders who used their wave knowledge to get the best waves were Siver and Juban. When the final horn sounded debates began on the beach as to who won? What would the judges decide? The winner was announced that night behind the bar at the SoloSports camp… Levi Siver! With conditions dwindling slightly on the final day and only enough time to get through a few rounds of the pro double elimination, the final result of the single elimination was upheld giving Siver his third AWT title of the season!
The week hosted by SoloSports Adventure Holidays in Punta San Carlos, Baja, Mexico. THE AWT would like to thank everyone—hosts, sponsors, competitors, staff, and organizer Sam Bittner—for making this event almost twice as big as it was last year.
The next AWT event is the Pacasmayo Classic, in Peru taking place from Aug 17-26. Continue reading for the full results…

Organizers are already planning ahead to the next Aruba Hi-Winds which will be held in the first week of July 2013.
The final day of the slalom looked as though we would see another day of classic Fuerteventura conditions, as the morning started in much the same fashion as yesterday. However after an eleven O’clock start, which allowed three heats to be completed, the wind unexpectedly disappeared. On several occasions the wind did threaten to return but it was never for a prolonged period meaning that the sailors endured a frustrating day on standby with no more heats being completed. Shortly before 4pm the sailors were released for the final time, which means that Finian Maynard (RRD / Avanti) is crowned the King of Fuerteventura after a simply brilliant performance yesterday. Maynard won two eliminations and finished third in the other yesterday to claim his place at the top of the podium ahead of Ben Van Der Steen (Starboard / Loft / Mystic / Different) and Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde). The event site was still surrounded by a vibrant atmosphere as the crowds poured into the event tent to see the closing ceremony of the men’s slalom, as well as the live music and dancing.
Read the full report on the PWA Website Here, with a brief interview with Finian Maynard.
The Freestyle portion of the event begins today with the guys scheduled to hit the water first followed by the girls. Check Back here for all the action later.
Day 5 is currently on stand by as Slalom competitors play wait for the wind. Well wrap up the action to this point which so far has only seen two days of sailing.
