It’s in French but here’s a look at the 2013 AHD AFS-1 board. The AFS-1 is a hydrofoil windsurfer (probably the only production hydrofoil windsurfer) that aims to provide speed 3 times faster than the wind speed in greater than 7 knots of wind. Speedsurfing can be seen as the Formula 1 of windsurfing. This spectacular high-speed discipline is becoming more and more an important discipline in windsurfing and has developed into an incredible extreme sport.

Windsurfing has been through ups and downs in recent years. End of the world predictions were almost truthful for Olympic windsurfing this year. There was a lot of discussions about why windsurfing should stay at the Olympics. Most probably the strongest argument in any discussion was the fact that BIC Techno 293 OD is the biggest windsurfing class in the world at the moment and future stars would be left without the future if windsurfing is not in RIO 2016.

Red Bull and Turkish windsurfer Lena Erdil Turkish windsurf athlete Lena Erdil attempted to break the World Windsurf Speed Record at the Luderitz Speed Challenge event in Namibia. Although she missed the world record by just 0.09 kts, she set a new Turkish record with a speed of 45.74 kts
Zara Davis currently sits as the worlds fastest female windsurfer. She’s been doing a great job and generating lots of publicity for the sport, watch this interview from BBC.
