With demanding and shifty conditions from 6 knots gusting to 12, the organizers managed to run two races before the wind died out in the afternoon. Hong Kong sailor Michael Cheng Chun Leung (HKG) is currently leading with an impressive 1-3 combo, but he had to make a run for his money to stay ahead of Chang Hei Man (HKG) 4-1 and Marina Alabbau Niera (ESP) 2-4, separating the top three by only 3 points. The third Phantom 295 event this year is well under way. More than 19 countries, 40 charter sets, sun, beaches, wind and some of the best youth racers

The official summary video of the 2012 Defi Wind, which took place from May 17 -20 in Gruissan on the Mediterranean Sea. The event had 850 participants for the largest global gathering of windsurfers, with pros and amateurs mixed on the same starting line.

The 2012 Bic Techno 293 World Championships have wrapped up on day 5, the numerous competitors had fun and raced fair! Present stars of Techno are future stars of windsurfing. Some of them won their first world title here in Medemblik.
Olympic superstars from past and present met the future stars of windsurfing in Medemblik on Day 4. Gold medalist Stephan van den Berg ( Los Angeles 1984 ) and Dorian van Rijsselberghe (London 2012) enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, signed a lot of autographs and made sure followers are on the right path.
Trying to capture all the action with 450 competitor on 3 courses, can be quite hard, but the producers of the 293 World Championships are trying. On the third day they asked the competitors to describe this place in 3 words.
The first day of racing at the BIC TECHNO 293 worlds is complete. They had sun and light winds, which was a great warm up for the windsurfers before the action begins tomorrow Wednesday.
Record breaking participation from all over the world with almost 350 competitors on BIC Techno 293 and another 100 in Raceboard class.

Windsurfing at the least still has at least 1 Olympics left, and the RS:X men and women are in ful swing competing at the the Skandia Sail for Gold regatta. This is there last event before the Olympics, and taking place in the Olympic Venue at Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy.

Defi Wind is the biggest windsurfing event ever. Unforunatley 2012 didn’t deliver the strong winds Defi Wind in know for. Despite the lack of strong wind, it looks like it was a great event, with everyone enjoying the fun racing.
5 may 2012: ISAF has decided to replace Windsurf by Kitesurf at the Olympic Games.
This decision is not understandable!
