A great interview with AWT director, founder, and organizer. She is a very busy lady, and doing an amazing job for windsurfing in North American. Organizing 9 events this year, drawing in amateurs and pro to events in Top windsurfing destinations in North and South America. And word spreading with quite a strong likely hood of a PWA/AWT collaborated event in Maui this year. Something I’m sure a lot of people are looking forward to and an event that could draw many big names.
Catch up with Sam in this interview as she discusses how her dream all began, and how she came to organize the AWT. Best of luck to Sam, and fingers crossed for and AWT/PWA event on Maui this year!

2012 Maui Makani Classic is Over…… What an Incredible Contest!!
What a phenomenal 5 days of contest here at the AWT final tour stop at Ho’okipa Maui! Everyone was in agreement that there hadn’t been a competition like it at Ho’okipa for a very long time. The biggest names in windsurfing from back in the day put up a fierce fight and an epic show against some of the top new names in the sport.
With 120 entrants, from 24 countries, 60 amateur competitors, 20 female sailors and a who’s who in the Professional division, this event was destined from the outset to be a very, very special few days. Combining the incredible entry list with some all-time Ho’okipa conditions with waves in the 12-15 foot region, spectators and competitors alike were treated to a spectacle that I don’t think any of us will be forgetting anytime soon!

What a day all the competitors had at Ho’okipa for Day 4 of the Maui Makani classic! The swell had dropped off but was still substantial enough to provide some logo to mast high sets. The wind pushed through by mid afternoon and most men had rigged 4.7 – 5.0 with the women chosing 3.7- 4.2. It was an emotional day for former world champ and Maui local Kevin Pritchard as he hammered through heat by heat and finally grabbed the title at Ho’okipa for the single elimination.
Enjoy the awesome video of highlights from the Pro single elimination.

Camille Juban Wins the 2012 AWT Hatteras Wave Jam
The final day of the Hatteras Wave Jam saw a solid swell hit the Island. With only a few hours left in the contest window the wind gods smiled on the AWT once again providing incredible port-tack conditions to run the Pro, Women and Youth heats… plus an Amateur/Masters Expression Session for a Chinook Pro-1 Carbon boom.
Pro heats were set for 15-minutes and the judges score cards were quickly filled up as there were plenty of waves providing long and rip-able rides. The final heat came down to an epic battle between Camille Juban, Fabrice Beaux and Morgan Noireaux. It was a super close contest with Juban’s Goiter (photo above) giving him the edge over the smooth sailing Beaux and slashy Noireaux.
A quick update on the AWT. The Hatteras wave Jam wrapped up on September 15th. The final heat came down to an epic battle between Camille Juban, Fabrice Beaux and Morgan Noireaux. It was a super close contest with Juban’s Goiter (photo above) giving him the edge over the smooth sailing Beaux and slashy Noireaux. Over on the women’s side Miho Tanaka took the crown by narrowly defeating Fiona Wylde, Ingrid Larouche and Sam Bittner. After all the action everyone headed over to the Koru Beach Klub for amazing final send-off party. Beer flowed and North Carolina BBQ was enjoyed.
