Fall and Winter and fast approaching in the Norther hemisphere, that means down under summer is just approaching. Registration for the 13th annual Defi Wind is now open. The event see over one thousand competitors and is the World’s premier, and largest participation long-distance windsurfing event and festival. The event runs from May 9th to 12th 2012 in Gruissan, in the South of France.

A few hours ago, the first of 3 contests for the Red Bull Storm Chase got the go ahead. 10 riders are headed to Ireland, trying to beat the storm that is expected to hit Ireland West Coast on Sunday. Boardseeker who are familiar with Ireland are saying swell could reach 30-40 feet, with winds up to force 10, that’s around 50 knots. It should be a gnarly contest, and we’ll keep you posted with updates when ever possible. The Red Bull Storm Chase website will go Live tomorrow, featuring frequent updates and videos.
Mark your calendars. The 2013 AWT Tour Dates have been updated. After a very successful 2010, 2011, and 2012, the American Windsurfing Tour is ready to charge on to year 4 of the tour. Check out the updated schedule and sign up today!

With 12 tour stops, 6 wave events, 6 slalom events, and 4 or 5 freestyle events, the PWA Tour is increasing. The biggest additions are Chile and South Africa where we could very well see some awesome down the line sailing. According to Robby Swift active PWA sailor and organizer of the PWA Chile event there is a three year contract set, so we should be seeing a stop in Chile for at least the next few year!
Freestylers should get more chances to compete this year with Holland set to host a freestyle and slalom event in September. Fingers are also crossed for a PWA Vietnam stop for the freestylers, which would bring them the much wanted 5th stop.
With the growth of the PWA and several other professional tours happening around the World, the sport is looking strong!
