Things are looking good for the PWA Tour after a few events were cancelled in previous years. Chili is confirmed and the AWT has extended an invitation to the PWA to join them for The Aloha Classic.
The Aloha Classic was the final and premier event of the PWA World Tour until 2006 when it was cancelled. In 2011 the AWT brought an event back to Ho’okipa with the Maui Makani Classic, which was just announced will be renamed to The Aloha Classic.
Announcing a name change for the AWT final 2013 event from Maui Makani Classic to Aloha Classic. AWT brackets will run as usual with Amateur, Masters, Youth, Women and Pro divisions. The PWA has been invited to join in on the 2-week contest window. If the PWA joins in on the event, top Pros ranking from the AWT brackets will advance as wildcards to the PWA brackets. We are happy to also welcome Duncan Coombs as confirmed Head Judge for the 2013 Aloha Classic.
Contest window for the Aloha Classic is October 24th-November 6th. Permits allow us to run 11 of the 14 days. We will hold our awards party on Saturday, November 2nd. All completed divisions up to that point will be awarded at that time and any final awards will be presented at the beach Sunday the 3rd through Wednesday the 6th of November condition dependent.
All are welcome to participate in this event. Register today at AmericanWindsurfingTour.co
m as spots are limited to the first 100 competitors registered.
This is great news, and it is sure to be an exciting event. I would say we could see many names return to Competition, such as Jason Polakow who competed in last years AWT event, and Kauli Seadi who has recently joined with Hot Sails Maui.
2012 Maui Makani Classic is Over…… What an Incredible Contest!!
What a phenomenal 5 days of contest here at the AWT final tour stop at Ho’okipa Maui! Everyone was in agreement that there hadn’t been a competition like it at Ho’okipa for a very long time. The biggest names in windsurfing from back in the day put up a fierce fight and an epic show against some of the top new names in the sport.
With 120 entrants, from 24 countries, 60 amateur competitors, 20 female sailors and a who’s who in the Professional division, this event was destined from the outset to be a very, very special few days. Combining the incredible entry list with some all-time Ho’okipa conditions with waves in the 12-15 foot region, spectators and competitors alike were treated to a spectacle that I don’t think any of us will be forgetting anytime soon!

Check out the amazing action from the 2012AWT Maui Makani Classic Double elimination, which wrapped up on Wednesday with Bernd Roediger crowned the King of Hookipa!
The action at the 2012 Maui Makani Classic is in the bag, with 16 year old Bernd Roediger, winning the event! Congrats to him, who battled back defeating first PWA legend Marcilio Browne in the semi final. Then moved onto the final against last years champion and former World Champion Kevin Pritchard in a double elimination.
Awesome good to all the competitors and a big shout out to the AWT who put on an awesome event, and the many announcers who gave everyone at home including myself awesome live coverage.
What a day all the competitors had at Ho’okipa for Day 4 of the Maui Makani classic! The swell had dropped off but was still substantial enough to provide some logo to mast high sets. The wind pushed through by mid afternoon and most men had rigged 4.7 – 5.0 with the women chosing 3.7- 4.2. It was an emotional day for former world champ and Maui local Kevin Pritchard as he hammered through heat by heat and finally grabbed the title at Ho’okipa for the single elimination.
Enjoy the awesome video of highlights from the Pro single elimination.
The 3rd day of the AWT Maui Makani Classic is live right now! The action right now is the youth fleet, who can definitely shred. Check it out right now!
Due to Hurricane in New York, Livestream.com is having issues and we are unable to be live at this time. However we are recording and you will be able to watch these heats on demand later today. 🙂 Contest is on!!! – From the AWT
EPIC, EPIC, EPIC!!
That really is the only way to sum up yesterday’s events at Ho’okipa beach park for Day 3 of the AWT Maui Makani Classic! Everyone on the beach felt that history was being made as they sat on the hill and looked down at what most were calling the Greatest Show on Earth!
