The biggest news of all however, is that the event will now be run by the Moreno twins. The Moreno twin’s are two of the best female windsurfers, and they intend to bring a fresh new look to the PWA tour stop. They have already re-named it the PWA Pozo Wind & Waves Festival. A strong prediction is the emphasis on growing the event to a scale that is similar to PWA Podersdorf or PWA Sylt.
From the 12th to the 17th June, Costa Brava shall once again play host to the stars of the windsurfing world, as the third event of the men’s PWA Slalom World Tour takes place. A short interview and action form Podesdorf with top freestyle rider, Taty Frans, who came second at the recent PWA Freestyle event in Austria.
The cream of the crop of the men’s freestyle fleet have been once again ripping at Austria’s famed Neusiedler See for the opening event of the 2012 freestyle world tour. From the 27th April to the 1st May these guys showed their latest moves after their winter training and launched the 2012 freestyle season off to an explosive start.
Neusiedler See is unique as the only inland stop on the PWA tour. It is also truly unpredictable as it can offer anything from freezing 40 knot winds, combined with torrential rain, to weather more associated with the Mediterranean and idyllic breezes. One thing is for sure though, this year we had mediterranean like 30°C and blue bird for the whole weekend. Some south wind enables the riders to battle out for the “King of the Lake”.
TThe first PWA event of the season just wrapped up. Bjorn Dunkerbech edged out Gonzalo Costa Hoevel and Antoine Albeau for the win in mens slalom. Karin Jaggi took first for the women. Head over to the PWAWorldTour.com for full event results, pictures and video.
More disappointing news from the PWA, coming just a few weeks after announcing the cancellation of the Aruba Slalom event, the PWA has now cancelled the entire event. The following is the statement from the PWA, citing the financial situation for cancellations.
“The present economic situation, brought about by the closing of the Valero Refinery, has greatly affected Aruba. As a consequence sponsors for the event recently informed us that they are forced to cut down funding support for events and projects on the Island because of the present insecure financial situation. Government budgets have been cut drastically and as such the needed budget for the PWA event cannot be supplemented from that source either.”
Hopefully this trend does not continue, and events return in the following years.
