With 12 tour stops, 6 wave events, 6 slalom events, and 4 or 5 freestyle events, the PWA Tour is increasing. The biggest additions are Chile and South Africa where we could very well see some awesome down the line sailing. According to Robby Swift active PWA sailor and organizer of the PWA Chile event there is a three year contract set, so we should be seeing a stop in Chile for at least the next few year!
Freestylers should get more chances to compete this year with Holland set to host a freestyle and slalom event in September. Fingers are also crossed for a PWA Vietnam stop for the freestylers, which would bring them the much wanted 5th stop.
With the growth of the PWA and several other professional tours happening around the World, the sport is looking strong!
This is a tribute to young Irish wave sailor Mikey Clancy, who sadly passed away much too early on January 6th. No wave was too big for him! Continent Seven put the tribute togeather.

The Dutch rider Pieter Bijl (33), currently living on Maui, a very experienced rider who started his profession career in 1998 on the PWA tour. Peter is not only a racer but has worked for Fanatic, NeilPryde and JP to develop many products for the sport. After two year riding and working for JP he’s going to be joining Angulo boards. He joins Angulo as European commercial manager and product developer.
“The fun factor mixed with a very high level of professionalism is what Pieter brings to the table. He and I really see eye to eye on how we like to push things forward with minimum beaurocracy and great expediency . Pieter’s work ethic is probably unrivalled in the windsurf industry and now Angulo and it’s customers will benefit directly from his skill and experience. Also, I’m confident that Pieter will be firmly established in PWA top 10, which is a nice feather in our cap. Pieter and I will work hand in hand to develop the brand and have agreed that focus on the product is off first and foremost importance and our 2013 boards reflect the attention to detail. Welcome Pieter!” Josh Angulo
Not so much a move but a sequence of moves, which always helps to impress. Check out Italian rider Federico Infantino, in Tenerife, who does a 1 handed backloop into another backloop.
Malta a small island located in the centre of the Mediterranean, between Sicily, Tunesia and Libya. Many great spots can be found around the island, which can produce good swell and winds, with down the line conditions. There are also quite a few flat water spots. Check out this awesome video from UK freestyle talent Jamie Drummond, he looks pretty good in the waves to us, he spent December in Malta. Exploring the island for his first time and had some great sessions at Ghalis, Melieha and Armier.
