Ka Sails team Sailor Ben Newson (Aus 23) brings us this collection of nice clips filmed in Western Australia over the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Two weeks ago Ben Newson went on a solo mission in Australia to find some good conditions. Ben tried again to set up his camera on the beach and capture a bit of footage to cut together and make a story of the day. He set the focus roughly where he thought he would be sailing and press record. The camera is supposed to record for 30 min intervals but seems to stop around the ten minute mark give or take a bit. This meant a lot of running up and down the beach to reset the button.
Enjoy the video.
Australia Pro Ben Newson recently released this solo video as a fun project testing someĀ filmingĀ methods in Western Australia.
I recently went “Hans Solo” on a mission to the South coast of WA on a recent good forecast hoping to score some good conditions and explore some new locations. Seeing as though I was the only person on the beach I decided to set my tripod up in the hope to get a bit of footage. I jammed the legs into the sand and rested the lense against the trusty Toyota for some stabilization from the wind. I call it the set and forgot method, a bit like fishing when you dont have the line in your hands. It was a bit painful at times and a lot of action was missed either out of frame or because the camera decided to stop recording. It stayed on at Mutton Bird Beach but didn’t want to play nice at the good spot. I managed to get a bit of action (not the best i know) and cut it together into a short clip to show the conditions on offer. It was more about testing out whether this method of filming would work. It was filmed with a canon 60D, Canon 70-200 f4 non is, Tamron 24-70 f2.8 and the goprohd 2. – Ben

This video is epic, with stunning heli shots, you’ve got to watch it!
Ben Newson (AUS-23) from Perth, Western Australia is a 28 year old firefighther and windsurfing addict. He likes wavesailing and has been competing on the PWA tour since 2011. Ben has been in Europe since May and is already a bit home sick, missing Australia and waves. Now he edited a very nice clip, which shows some of his best clips he collected during his journeys.
Enjoy some footage from the last 2 years wave sailing in Australia and Maui. It was mostly filmed with a canon 60D and a go pro Hd2. I used Adobe premiere pro cs 5.5, Photoshop and After Effects to edit the video. Its called home sickness because I’ve been travelling for the last 5 months and started making the video on a smellly ferry going between Feurteventura and Tenerife. As I started going through the clips I had the combination of fumes, the rocking of the boat and watching epic waves made me want to go home. Bring on summer. – Ben Newson
