Kai Lenny suffered a pretty gnarly injury while surfing Jaws the other day. Below is what he had to say and a few pics. (Warning: Some of the pics are pretty nasty and if you have a weak stomach put some saran wrap over your keyboard.)
I had a few really good wipeouts today, but it was my last wipeout that gave me wound! Basically Air dropped on a set wave at Peahi and once I landed and committed my bottom turn I hit a rib in the face of wave and face planted in the barrel. My fin tomahawked my foot while I was getting sucked over the falls. Once I surfaced I was all the way by the rocks on the inside so besides getting cut I got a good beating as well! That is why its called the ride after the ride!!
Check out the Kaino from Kai Lenny, Its basically a Kono taken to the surf, the clip is from 2009 and was part of ‘The Windsurfing Movie II’. Here’s what Kai had to say recently,
One of my favorite moves to do windsurfing! I call it the Kaino. Its basically a Kono taken to the surf, my dream for this trick is to do it on a big wave this winter!
We’ll be watching for it Kai!

Ho’okipa saw some sweet days this week so we have some great shots of Kai Lenny, Josh Stone and Marcilio Brown. Also this week three amazing sots of Alex Mussolini during a Gaastra photoshoot, one of which is our cover. Plus much more!
Maui is back on, so there’s no doubt about it we’ve got a collection of shots from Jimmie Hepp who captures the action on H0’okipa, plus some other great shots from around the World. For the cover shot this week is was a tough call between the insane tweaked aerial of Kai Lenny and the massive air of Philip Koster, but the crazy back bend of Kai gets it. Happy Easter.

After a failed first attempt 2 years ago, watersport master Kai Lenny attempts to windsurf 56 miles across Lake Michigan. Better equipment, a better forecast, and a different location set the stage for his second attempt, and it all falls onto Kai to power through hours of constant focus and bitter cold to pull it off. After 2 hours and 50 minutes of windsurfing through endless choppy waves, Kai emerges triumphant on the other side of the lake.
