In the end we just didn’t get the wind that is needed for a world record and didn’t get to sail as much as we would have liked, but it was still good to be back on the canal and give it my best shot… Hope you like the video! The trailer is out and the count down begins for the biggest and fastest speed event of the year. The Luderitz World Record Race this year is going to be tough, competitive and mindblowing. Double the number of riders this year as compared to last year, and records to be smashed!!!.
The 2013 Luderitz Speed Challenge is going to be an intense one. If conditions are good, numerous records could be broken. The event runs through October until the middle of November.

West Kirby is well known for speed sailing, with GPS records often getting broken and peak speeds hitting over 50 Knots. Here’s a nice video of someof the action captured there on January 3rd 2013.
Red Bull and Turkish windsurfer Lena Erdil Turkish windsurf athlete Lena Erdil attempted to break the World Windsurf Speed Record at the Luderitz Speed Challenge event in Namibia. Although she missed the world record by just 0.09 kts, she set a new Turkish record with a speed of 45.74 kts
Zara Davis currently sits as the worlds fastest female windsurfer. She’s been doing a great job and generating lots of publicity for the sport, watch this interview from BBC.

What drives a man to invest so much time, money and energy in 10 seconds of euphoria or disappointment? The misunderstood battle with the elements, the internal struggle, the battle with others, 10 seconds … is the story of the man behind the speedsurfer.
At least thats the idea but making the movie besides a daytime job seemed to much. Working out ideas, shooting, editing, find suitable music it consumed so much time and energy that I couldn’t windsurf myself anymore. So I stopped but this is what I have and it deserved its place on the internet for all the guys participating in the movie. Shot on location in January and February at Strand Horst.
Sandy Point has long been regarded as probably the best natural speedsailing location in the world, it’s located about 180 km south-east of Melbourne, Australia and has it’s peak wind strengths during winter (March-October). During March 2012 Windsurf Australia visited Sandy Point for a few days of filming and photoshoots, this is our video from those days.
