On the third day the slalom sailors finally took to the water, as winds ranged from 8 – 20 knots. Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) enjoyed an excellent day as the Frenchman won back-to-back bullets to enhance his title challenge. It was a completely different story for the current leader of the slalom tour though, Bjorn Dunkerbeck (Starboard / Severne / Mystic / Dunkerbeck Eyewear / Chris Benz), as he missed out on the first winners’ final and then suffered an untimely catapult in the second final of the day. Dunkerbeck will will be hoping for a miracle if he hopes to maintain his title.
Brouwersdam in the Netherlands,is becoming a bit of a super-freestyle spot, and creating some amazing riders. Just heck out this clip that has a good mix of tow-in with normal windsurfing.
Youp Schmit Ned-27 from Bonaire went to Greek island of Lesbos to a sick spot called Sigri. He didn’t get too much footage but enough to show you a little what it’s like. Also make sure to check out www.youpschmit.com
Watch the highlights from the first 3 days of the wave competion in the 2012 PWA World Cup Sylt.
Epic, Unreal, Beatuiful. Thats what describes the waves and spot in this video! Colin Sifferlen catching some waves and freeride in New Caledonia. New Caleonia is a French Island located in the clear waters of the South Pacific.
Today saw the freestyle and wave sailors hit the water as the action continued in Sylt for the Third day. The morning saw relatively flat water and cross shore winds, which transformed Sylt into a freestyle arena as the double elimination began. After three hours of freestyle, the fleet has been narrowed down to the top eight men in the world. At this point the decision was made to change disciplines as the waves continued to grow in size enabling the completion of the women’s wave single elimination and the start of the men’s double elimination. The real news of today though belongs to Iballa Ruano Moreno (Starboard / Severne), who secured the 2012 PWA Wave World Championship title and also won the women’s single elimination.
The mens double elimination was called for the day due to light winds. Check back tomorrow as the action continues.
A cool little windsurf video, not so much in the action, nothing crazy, no new pros, but coll in the way it was shot. The whole clip was shot for a mini rc helicopter, pretty cool, and deffinitley a cheaper alternative to expensive shooting!
French videographer Eric Bellande produced this short clip of the PWA Wqorld Cup Wave Single Elimination in Sylt. Enjoy!
Philip Köster’s nice Wave 360 during the single elimination final on Day 2 of PWA Sylt 2012.
We don’t see to many speed surfing videos, here is a nice one!
What drives a man to invest so much time, money and energy in 10 seconds of euphoria or disappointment? The misunderstood battle with the elements, the internal struggle, the battle with others, 10 seconds … is the story of the man behind the speedsurfer.
At least thats the idea but making the movie besides a daytime job seemed to much. Working out ideas, shooting, editing, find suitable music it consumed so much time and energy that I couldn’t windsurf myself anymore. So I stopped but this is what I have and it deserved its place on the internet for all the guys participating in the movie. Shot on location in January and February at Strand Horst.
