Meet Starboard Windsurfing’s Brand Manager Tiesda You, in this series of Starboard’s Tiki Documentary. Starboard has even called him, the “Golden Child”. Tiesda has been designing boards since 2000, including the famous Carve, the first Kodes and now the Atom IQ!
Kanaha Beach is one of the Worlds most popular windsurfing beaches, perfect for beginners to pro sailors. However it is now in danger of being closed to windsurfers.

State DOBOR is considering enforcing a 25 year old rule that would block the current access for most water users from over 3000 feet of Kanaha beach shoreline.
The current level of access has been enjoyed by generations of surfers, windsurf, kayak, outrigger canoe, standup, fishermen, and divers. The current arrangement has been accepted by the community for 25 years. There was a good balance that made sense with different areas designated to their most suitable uses. The Old rule that was intended to create exclusive swim zones located close to the lifeguard tower, and the current swim zone (marked by buoys) has been used and respected for two and a half decades. Also several years ago the lifeguard tower was moved and since then the life guards themselves have set up a new swim zone, adjacent to the camp ground, right next to the new tower. This arrangement also works very well, but this new swim zone would also be lost if the old rules aren’t changed. If this happens access will be blocked for a huge part of the shoreline and most of the user groups will be displaced. This will lead to overcrowding and potential problems in the remaining areas. We want the DOBOR to change the outdated rules to reflect the current use, and officially recognize the new swim zone as well. Please help protect ocean access for all water sports users at Kanaha Beach.
Generally windsurfing wipe outs don’t hurt that badly, water is pretty forgiving. If you add a ramp things get a bit harded, check out this wipe out at the Wesh Center Crew, Leucate.

Wipe outs are a part of windsurfing, and after all the movies we see there’s a lot of footage that doesn’t make the cut. Dieter Van der Eyken put together this crash compilation with clips he cut from movies over the last year.

It’s not often that sailors get Ho’okipa nearly to them selves, but when a contest is on only 4 sailors are on the water, so everyone else is warming and sailing lanes. Here’s a quick clip from Kauli Seadi shot at Lanes during the 2013 Aloha Classic.
Jamie Hancok bring us his edit of the British Wavesailing Championship, which was won by Phil Horrocks.
It felt a bit strange filming the guys at this years Cornwall BWA event after winning the event in the previous two years. But with breaking my leg back in august i’ve been making the most of getting behind the lens. Last year I sneaked past Phil on the final day of competition to take the event win and the overall British title. It was great for me but terrible for Phil, and I think everyone felt for him. So coming to this event I really wanted Phil to win it, and to film it.

With the PWA Double Elimination completed yesterday it was again time for the Amateur, Master’s and Youth riders to take to the water at Ho’okipa Beach Park, the undisputed home of windsurfing.

Iballa Moreno is one of the best female wavesailors, and can give some of the men a run for there money. She took last years PWA World Title, and was second this year , only to her sister Daida.
